The Worst Form of Government

Clearly, Keir Starmer is going to be a disaster for the UK as Prime Minister. The Tories have been bad in recent years. Labour is going to be far worse.

Part of this is that Labour is going to do some really stupid things. It is going to open the U.K.’s borders even wider to uncontrolled immigration. It is going to hurtle the UK even more precipitately towards net zero. It is going to impose VAT on private school fees, causing many parents to take their children out of private schools and thus overburden the state schools even more. Despite their half-hearted assurances, they are almost certainly going to increase tax above its already absurdly high level. In short, it is going to tax the people even more, using that tax revenue to spend on measures that do more harm than good.

But that is not the worst of it. The worst of it is that Starmer is going to pick up where Tony Blair and Gordon Brown left off, and drive the UK further and further off the road of democracy by putting more and more decision-making in the hands of unelected bureaucrats.

There are a number of reasons why that is a really bad idea.
