Fresh Eyre

Perdita and I are back from Lake Eyre.

It is extraordinary.  The view from the air was impressive.  But even more so was standing at the southern shore. There you are in the middle of a desert.  And there is this lake, like a sea, with water as far as the eye can see.

Perdita got very muddy in the lake.  She was reasonably well behaved.  She sat quietly in the back of the Jeep for the journey, which is a fair old way. I set the GPS for my first stop, which was the wonderful Prairie Hotel in Parachilna (one of the better pubs in the world), and before long it said “Apres 286 kilometres, turnez a droite” (I still have it turned onto French; for some weird reason, being told what to do by a small computer in  a foreign language is less offensive, somehow.  Counter-intuitive that one).
