Here, unedited in any way, is my 10 year old son Jamie’s sonnet, which he wrote this morning (Perdita, I should explain, is our 9 week-old English Setter):
Perdita the dog, she is such fun
She thinks my hand is very tasty
To nibble away she is too hasty
She likes to lie in the morning sun
By now its noon, the sun is bright
Perdita’s stuck in the nets again
Then she cowers-she’s scared of the train
And we start soothing her till night
Perdita goes to sleep with peace
As soon as she wakes its down to the beach
Lots of attention, lots of fun!
When she’s home she goes for a rest
And then she starts to eat with jest!
Perdita feels she weighs a tonne!
